Khashmak - the famous “Nose Kiss” or 'Give me your nose”, is like a western handshake using other means, a greeting to show respect. In Amrita’s signature style she recorded the word “Khashmak” and captured the structure of the sound wave. She has then painted images that represent the meaning of the word to create Voice note Art(c).

Local dialect and slang in every culture is a great way to get an understanding and appreciation of the culture.

It will connect with the local nationals and residents of the UAE but also help educate the visitors in a fun and colourful way.

Amrita painted the “Khashmak” mural at the Souk Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, UAE in 2020 and both the Souk Madinat Jumeirah and Amrita Sethi invite you to the Souk to check out the original artwork. "Halla Walla” is local slang and it means “Hi” or “Hi there"! In Amrita’s signature style of Voice note Art(c) she has recorded the phrase Halla Walla and captured the shape of the sound wave, represented by the vertical lines. She then encapsulates the spirit of the meaning through the images. The Souk Madinat Jumeriah says “hi there!” and welcomes you.

Souk Madinat Jumeirah

Visit the Souk Madinat Jumeirah to admire Amrita Sethi’s Mural titled “Souk Madinat” Voice note Art (c) 2019. The Souk is one of Dubai and the UAE’s treasures that celebrates the culture, history and essence of the Emirates in a way that is modern, inclusive and diverse. Now the Souk Madinat Jumeirah has become an important Art Hub in the UAE with 6 other talented artists to admire- commonly known as the Souk 7. 

For the mural, Amrita first captured the shape of the sound wave of the name “ Souk Madinat Jumeirah” and then she  created images that tell the story of the UAE and captures the essence of what the Souk and the UAE represents. As a Tech Artist Amrita always connects the viewer with the art through technology.
